Today, the AMOA-National Dart Association is the official sanctioning body for the sport of soft-tip electronic darting. The emphasis of the trade association is the promotion, recognition and standardization of league play. The NDA is now an international organization with members from eight countries. Over 56,000 players are sanctioned annually, participating in dart leagues run by our members in over 10,000 locations worldwide. The NDA hosts the world's largest international soft-tip dart tournament competition.
Our national league program has something for everyone! In fact, it is the only league that offers both English "steel-tip" and Electronic "soft-tip" action in the same format. The American Open League offers "scratch" play of 501 singles and cricket doubles. The NEUTRALIZER® League equalizes competition regardless of a members' skill in 301 singles and cricket doubles. The American Dart League currently operates in 25 states and is managed by trained professionals to ensure the best-organized darts program in the U.S.
Tom Fleetwood and Ed McDevitt tossed around with others the idea of a national organization. An invitation was sent to known organizations to attend an informal meeting to discuss the formation of the American Dart Organization. That meeting held in conjunction with the Michigan Open Dart Tournament in Detroit, laid the foundation for the organization. The ADO began operation January, 1, 1976 with 30 charter member clubs and a membership of 7,500 players. Today, the ADO has a membership that averages 250 clubs on a yearly basis, representing nearly 50,000 members.
