The UPA’s, League of Champions, is an amateur league program created for both men and women in response to the market’s request for an amateur league with a professional format. From beginning to end our entire pool league system was created by Touring Professionals for the amateur player. Our handicapping system, the Systematic Speed Ratio (SSR), is the most comprehensive system available in our industry today. It gives players, regardless of skill level, an opportunity to compete on a level playing field and improves their game through unrivaled feedback. The UPA is truly dedicated to playing a major rule in the future of the sport with our constantly improving philosophy “The Evolution of Pool” and will continue to bring amateurs and pros alike the resources to change the face of pool in the US. The American Poolplayers Association (APA) was founded by professional poolplayers Terry Bell and Larry Hubbart in 1979 as the National Pool League, which became the American Poolplayers Association in 1981. The two realized the popularity of the sport, but knew that, different from other sports, there was no existing recreational league system. Today, the APA, also known as the Canadian Poolplayers Association in Canada, has grown to more than 250,000 members and boasts more members than all other "national" leagues combined. The League is administered locally by a network of Franchise Operators. League play is conducted weekly with both 8-Ball and 9-Ball team formats offered. The concept of our organization was on the drawing board as early as 1989, with the hopes of being the best. We are achieving our goals every day, and are now proudly serving tens of thousands of members every week, throughout the United States and Canada. Some say we are the "Players League", some say we are the "Rolls Royce League". I say we are the league of sportsmanship, the league for the present and future generations. Not the biggest, but the best. The league with a vision for you "The Player"! We promote integrity, honesty and fair play in competition.
